Cohen's Birth Story

Ok so here is the story of how Cohen came into the world....

Early Saturday morning I woke up around 2ish with contractions in my back, the same as with Hailee and couldn't sleep. So I got up and started laundry and watched TV. They were getting worse so around 4:30 I woke up Tyler and we headed to the hospital. I was at a 3 and having contractions but not too regular so they gave me something to help with the pain and we headed home to try to sleep. Luckily Hailee was with my parents still so we didn't have to worry about her.

We got home and Tyler went right to sleep. I tried but they were getting worse. I just kept trying to rest, but finally got up and took a bath and tried to walk them off. Finally at 10am I couldn't stand it anymore and woke Tyler up and we were off again. We got to the hospital and finally got in a room about 11 and they checked me and I was at an 8! I couldn't believe it. I was in a good amount of pain, but had to get an IV before my epidural and so finally about 40 minutes later my epidural was in. They told me if I felt any pressure to call right away. In the meantime the infant warmer and bed were brought in. I think they thought I would have him in the next hour or so. So did I....

An hour later I was at almost a 10, but the head was still pretty high so they said they would take their time and let him drop so the pushing would not be too long. I was fine with that since I was not in any pain. Around 5 the said they would start letting me push and see what kind of progress I was making. I didn't make much, but they made me stop because the Dr. was in a C-section. My Dr. was off that day so he wasn't there. Which was a bummer. The Dr. on call didn't even come in to see me until 8ish that night.

So they kept holding me off on pushing and then would let me start and make me stop. Meanwhile I was feeling soooo much pressure it was worse than the contractions that morning. I was also not making any progress, which was weird to me because Hailee was a relatively fast labor and delivery. Finally I got a new nurse and she quickly realized that he was sunny side up. She said usually you can push through this or get him low enough that you can use a vacuum. So we kept pushing for what seemed like forever, but it was probably like 2 hours total with all the stop and start they made me do. They also hooked me up to Pitocin to make the contractions stronger hoping it would help him out. It didn't and it just made my pain worse and worse. The pressure was just unbelieveable. They turned my on my side and had me stay like that for awhile hoping it would help him drop, but it didn't. Finally the Dr came in around 11 and checked me and basically said he was stuck on my pubic bone and I would need a C-Section. Isn't this something they could have realized 6 hours ago???? This is when I started to freak out. Luckily Tyler and my mom were there to calm me down and Tyler gave me a blessing. From then on things got better and I had my pain medication and I felt much better. The C-Section went well, even though it was so strange to be cut open and awake and have your husband watching the whole thing. I am so grateful that Cohen was born healthy and things ended up working out. But I think that it was not cool that I had to wait so long to figure it out. My own OB even said it should have happen hours sooner, since I was at a 10 for 9 hours!!!

The recovery has gone well, but so different than Hailee. It has been frustraiting to not be able to move around too well. It has only been the last few days where I am getting some energy back. But the baby is doing awesome. He has a gassy tummy so I have really been watching what I eat and making sure he burps well. He has already gained a pound from when he left the hospital. Hailee loves him too. She has adjusted well. She is back at my mom's till Sunday so I could get some extra rest. My mom was here for a week and I don't know what I would have done without her! She was such a help in every way! Well I better end this long post, but I will post pictures soon!

YAH I'm glad you posted something. I keep checking thinking that something will change. I need to give you a call some time this coming week and see if you need anything! I cant want to see Cohen again!

What a horror story... seems like you should get a Coach purse or something to help ease your pain! Did they give you a tuck when they were sewing you up? That is the new thing up here... makes women pray for a C-section.
I am so happy that Cohen (which is the COOLEST name ever!!) is healthy and Momma is doing well! Great job!

I can't believe you were dilated at a 10 for so long!! I am glad you guys are okay. What a crazy story - especially since Hailee's went so smoothly. Glad you guys are okay. Welcome to the world Cohen!

I cannot believe how crazy your labor was! You poor girl. I'm glad his is here and healthy. I just can't believe that after all of that you had to have a c-section! Hello couldn't they have figured that out sooner? Thanks for the story! Post more pics of Cohen.
